I have read a lot of classic novels when I was both in middle and high school. Classic novels is part of the Literature because the story is more complex and the rest is more detail-oriented. I always have a hard time reading classic novels because of the language, which I often pay very close attention on this kind of books. My favorite classic novel is "Wuthering Heights" written by Emily Bronte. I like the storyline, plus the characters are well-portrayed. This is the kind of book I have read over and over. What's your favorite classic novel?

I'm not really into all the great classic romances, like those of the Brontes or Jane Austen - for some reason they've just never really captured my interest. I like classic which address wider social issues. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is one of my favourite novels of all time, and I also like 'The Colour Purple'.

I have read "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was in middle school. It was the kind of book I have learned many issues in society. It did teach me ways to address some of the problems encounter in real life.

I liked "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte. I think I re-read it few times. The characters were well developed, there was mystery, tragedy, misfortune, happiness, romance...it's one of those novels that has a bit of everything. It was highly dramatic, which I like, and managed to keep you sympathizing with the main character. Also I really loved her explanations about art, and social norms and so on, as an artist myself...

I LOVE Phantom of the Opera back then. Even till now I can still remember all the names of the main characters! The love triangle between Raoul, Christine, and of course......The Phantom. Saying his name out may be spoiling too much, so I try not to do that ;p And I love the songs! The main theme is my favourite!

I'm in love with Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and also you can never go wrong with The Catcher in the Rye. I always enjoyed my English classes because we were required to read classic novels.

Literature is now one of my favorite joys today.

Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, is what made me feel that independence and defiance can be a good thing sometimes. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery is another great classic novel. made me believe in what is truly important in life. I also like The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane.

I am not really into reading novel books. But I do have favorite classic novels which are the Adventures of Huckleberry and the Adventures of Tom Sawyer Finn by Mark Twain. I first knew the novels when I was in grade school because of the animated series derived from these novels.

I really enjoyed reading "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert. It's a novel with a pretty heavy theme, but I did like it. Very intriguing. Another classic novel I love is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. It also features a sensitive topic regarding racial discrimination, but it's witty, and an eye-opener. Totally worth it.

I couldn't pick one particular but several and i am not all of them were written by British writers. Crime and Punishment from Dostoyevsky is one of the best novels ever to be written. I am not going to talk about it just read it if you haven't done that already. Another one i really liked was The Great Expectation by Charles Dickens. Again, no words about this because it is worldwide classic and it needs no explanation.
Catch-22 -Josepj Heller
The Grapes of Wrath- John Steinbeck
1984- George Orwell
Lord of the Flies - William Golding
The Time Machine - H.G. Wells

Many others of course.

My favourite ones change through my life.

When I as younger I reall love th Wuthering Heights, later on Catcher in the Rye and 1984.

Nowadays I a more like an Milan Kundera fan.

For me, I have not read a lot of classic novels. I remember reading Wuthering Heights back when I was in high school. Then, I also remember being engrossed in Little Women, I think this is my favourite classic novel by far. Then lastly, there's Jane Eyre which up until now boggles my mind. That's the thing with classic novels, they take time to comprehend and understand. And maybe that's why I'm a bit apprehensive about reading them.

Well, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird are some of the classic novels that have left a deep impression on me. I like Jane Austen's wit and Charlotte Bronte's eloquence, while I can relate to Holden Caulfield's teenage struggles and angst and find Atticus Finch a great role model for children and adults alike.

It's really hard to choose from all the books I've read but same as briannagodess, I really love Little Women both in print and in the movie version. I also love books written by Danielle Steele because they bring out a lot of emotions whenever I read her stories.

My favorite novel is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I like the style of Fitzgerald's writing, it is so classy, descriptive and easy to read. I read it for the first time when I was about 16 and since then I've read it 5 times minimum. The futile pursuit of "The American Dream" is what makes it so interesting even nowadays, you want Gatsby to succeed but you don't think Daisy deserves him. That's what only great authors can achieve. This romance of The roaring 20's makes you feel angry and simpathy at the same time, strikes you with the fallen dreams of a ayoung man and insolent behavior of a young lady and force you to continue reading until the end.
