What character would you be?

When I read a novel that provides a story that allows me to lose myself within it, I often wish I could just live within that world. Sometimes the escape into the literature often provides a reality that is much better than our own.

So,if you were able to travel into a story, and be able to experience the story as a specific character, who would you be and why? I know there are a lot of writer's out there who get inspiration from other characters, or like to build their writing off of a loose framework of a favourite story so I am curious to see what novel you would pick.

Who would you like to be?

It's funny you bring that up, because I was just reading a book a while back and thinking, "this character is just like me." But for the life of me, I can't remember what the book was. It may have been Gilbert Markham from The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but it's been a while since I read it. I don't know if I would necessarily want to live in that world, but I could certainly identify with a lot of the situations that he went through.

I would like to be the narrator of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Basically, it's about a man who travels back in time involuntarily and fools the inhabitants of that era into thinking that he is a magician by using science and technology from his own time.

Most books that I read now deal with very broken, fractured, incomplete lives. So I don't think I'd want to be part of those realities at all. My wishful fantasy is all with Harry Potter. I'd give anything to be any character in that book, even Argus Filch, the caretaker, only to experience that magical world! Before Harry Potter took over as a craze, I'd read Enid Blyton and The Anne Series by Montgomery, I'd love to have been part of their world too, like maybe Anne herself. :)
