Uganda's "Kill the Gays" Bill.

Fairly old news, but if you're not up to speed, a few months ago the UN voted to make executions based on sexual preference "ok by us" and it PASSED. Since then, Uganda has been trying to push the "Kill the Gays" bill through parliament and into law, and it may get through very soon: http://www.awid.org/News-Analysis/W...ill-May-Pass-Ugandan-Parliament-Within-a-Week

More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uganda_Anti-Homosexuality_Bill

Since I doubt there will be any users here that support the bill, feel free to use this thread to bitch about Uganda, the American Christians trying to push this through, how disappointing it is that people like this still exist, etc.

I've attended a dozen American Christian churches in half a dozen states, some with as many as 15,000 attendees per week, and I can safely say that 100% of them would be horrified at this egregious abuse of human rights. Even the ones who have moral issues with homosexuality would never support the killing of human beings. Just as there are radical Islamic and Jewish extremists, there are radical Christian extremists, but these represent a very small minority.

This exactly. I do not support homosexuality at all, but I would never, never, support the killing of gays. That is even worse in my eyes, and surely in God's as well. We're not here to judge, that right belongs to God alone.

This I find quite hypocritical. I can only assume your disapproval of homosexuality stems from the Bible (correct me if I'm wrong), and that you've understood this part of the Bible to align with what's "in God's eyes", yet in the very same Bible it says that homosexuals SHOULD be killed (Leviticus 20:13) - an action you consider God would disapprove of.

I understand that post-Jesus theology suggests that there's no need to kill sinners NOW because Jesus has paid that toll already, but that doesn't change the fact that for around 500 years before Jesus showed up, it was very much ok in God's eyes, and even COMMANDED, that homosexuals be put to death.

So, is the sole reason you'd never, never, support the killing of gays the fact that Jesus has already paid their death toll, or are you fundamentally against the death penalty for homosexuality because you think it's the wrong thing to do (possibly coupled with an ignorance of your own scripture)? I would guess the latter, as theists almost always define their god as an idealised version of themselves, where God loves all the things they love and hates all the things they hate, and they use words like "God says" or "God thinks" or "in God's eyes" to give authority to their own beliefs. Wow Noel what a great post lol
Anyway I wanted to comment on the original post where you said
the UN voted to make executions based on sexual preference "ok by us" and it PASSED.
Is that for real? Like the UN are fine with executions based on sexual preference? I can hardly belive that...
And the "Kill the Gays" bill is just... medieval if you ask me.
I'm not christian nor gay and I have to say that this shit is fucked up.

Indeed it is fucked up, and unfortunately yes it's for real. It was put to the vote, and while most of Europe, Australia and America voted against removing sexual preference from the "do not kill over" list, all of Africa, most (maybe all) of the Middle East, China, I think maybe Russia too, all voted for the removal, and it passed with a little over 50% (if the absentee countries had voted it may or may not have had a different outcome).

It's very disappointing that the votes of countries with reputations for human rights violations carried equal weight, but unfortunately this ended up being just one more thing to add to the ever-growing list of disappointments coming from the United Abominations (to quote Megadeth).

I couldn't agree more. It was interesting to see the interview Rachel Maddow did with the president of Uganda, where throughout the interview he was trying to stress that he's "not like Hitler", when Maddow never accused or even implied that he was like Hitler. He's clearly aware that the world hates him.

This is pretty ridiculous, if you ask me.
Come on! This is 2011 for goodness sake!
We as people need to rise above this. It's depressing that history repeats itself...
This is just sick though.
