Students with tattoo

The tattoo is a growing concern among educators here because it is getting popular. Maybe the tattoo is in fashion because of the actors and athletes who are sporting tattooes on their arms and body. The tattoo has no place in the school but what can the school do to a student who has a tattoo that is conspicuously displayed on the arm or on the neck? Take note that the parents can file a complaint against the school authorities if they sanction the student for the tattoo. I guess this is a topic for a debate.

I think this is one of those fights that maybe isn't worth fighting. Unless the tattoo is something inappropriate, I don't see the need to cover them up. It's just a form of expression. If it's really troublesome, I'd keep armbands to give to the student to cover up the arm tattoo. I'm not sure how I'd cover up a neck tattoo, though.

Well, when someone reaches their teenage years, it is very natural to think of something new to do. As someone who knows what's best for them, you should guide them andake them realize what they should do and not do at such a young age.

Some teenage tend to have some tattoos on expressing on something. Schools cannot control what the students do about their body specially with parents approval. It is also a form of art and passion so let them be unless it was inappropriate and disturbing for others.

I don't think we should meddle with the students' way of expressing themselves by the use of tattoo. It is a form of art and has nothing to do with students being troublesome. Just because a student has a tattoo does not mean he is delinquent or a troublemaker.

I couldn't care less if a student has no tattoos or plenty of them. What matters to me is that they are curious, well-behaved, and diligent in their studies. I know it would be better if they had waited until they were adults before putting a permanent mark on their skin, but what can we do about those students who already have had tattoos done? I think there is no better choice than to simply move forward from there. There is no point in penalizing a student for something that not only does not cause harm to anyone else, but also cannot be rectified so easily; adding penalties will only get in the way of an education that he/she might so badly need. Furthermore, an authority figure bringing too much negative attention to the issue will only make the other students more interested in getting tattoos. Most teenagers are rebellious by nature, and if they knew that their tattooed classmate is causing an uproar among the parents and the faculty, then they would see the tattooed classmate as a hero and would do their best to imitate him/her (see: Streisand effect).

Students with tattoos are growing in numbers. It's their own unique way of expressing themselves. I don't see any problem with it as long as the student is doing his/her thing and that is too study hard and learn. It's their own body and own freedom. They can have as many tattoos as they want as long as they can finish their studies, graduate and have a good career.

Though schools have their own strict rules regarding tattoos and students must comply with it. Some schools are strict against tattoos, others don't. So students must follow school rules if they want to graduate from that school. There are schools that allows tattoos as long as it can be covered in school premises. There are also schools that doesn't care about tattoos. It doesn't mean that these rules created by schools are against tattoos and student with tattoos. They highly respect students with tattoos but they also respect those who have different perspective against tattoos.

I think every student can have a tattoo, if he wants to have one.As regards me, I am not fond at all getting myself a tattoo, it doesn't sound as an attractive idea to me.Once somebody gets a tattoo, it is harder to erase it.There are some schools where is allowed to students to have a tattoo as long as the tattoos are placed on non visible parts of the body.I think it doesn't play an important role if a student has tattoo, it is way more important that he achieves good results in school.

Yes, tattoo is everywhere. It is a choice, expression and fashion. But before tattoo is only for prisoners. There is always a bad connection about tattoo but in modern days outlook is change. I think tattoo is only good for adult but not with young children. I don't like looking on those innocent children marked on their skin. It feels like dragging them to old and matured look. Plus, I don't like looking on those people who's colored tattoo are all over their body.I'm sorry but it looks dirty.

My country is conservative and we still have values and morals by which we abide. Some things, like tattoos, smoking, drinking, etc are associated with wayward and irresponsible people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that people who do these things are irresponsible, I'm just trying to explain that it is how they are perceived in my country. As a result of this perception, people tend to avoid them. Having a tattoo in a visible place means no corporation would hire you. To join the police force or become a soldier, you must not have any tattoo of any kind on any part of your body (you will be checked)

What is common here is the tattoo of old where your name is tattooed on your body and there are lots of old people with such tattoos. The tattoos young people across the world now have with elaborate designs is not yet prevalent here. It will be soon (I'm sure) because young people are fast catching on and technology is opening them to what's happening in the rest of the world. For now, I will enjoy the tattoo free skin of my people before the tattoo craze catches on

Tattoos are a personal choice. However, the procedure is painful and it may damage your skin too. There are also very attractive and easily influence others to get one too. Parents must strictly observe their children and keep a watch on them. Tattoos are permitted from an age onwards so for children it is a strict no from my end.

I know that having a tattoo is not bad but for a student to have it I think is not right. Students should be clean all over their body until they are done in school.

I think having tattoes is an art and some people serve it as a way of expressi g their feelings. But for the students especially if at young age, maybe we prevent them from having tattoes at their age.

I do agree with one post about not meddling with a student's affairs BUT there are school rules and regulations regarding tattoos. It just depends on which school. I'm sure before enrolling, the school discusses these rules and regulations to parents and to children. If it's all written in the guide book then it should be honored. And also, I'm sure there's a restriction with minors getting tattoos. Last time I heard only 18+ can get tattoos.

Meh, I wouldn't care either way. There's plenty of people that I've worked with that had tattoos, it was never an issue. I guess it would be the same thing in school. I doubt somebody having a tattoo would somehow prevent others from learning.

In my country it's only something you can get once you turn 18 unless you have a parents consent so I've never encountered a student with a tattoo. I assume it may be different depending on the country you live in and what the local laws are.

I believe students with tattoos should have to cover them up in school. I feel they are a distraction and once you get one it is addictive to get more. Peer pressure could also cause other students to get started with tattoos. Many of my friends have beautiful tattoos and it would make me want to get one even though I didn't want one.

Children do not have stable system of values and they tend to accept everything that is offered by the current trend. This is the case with tattoos and piercings which are rapidly increasing in schools. There is not much we can do as teachers since these things are done with the consent of their parents. I personally have nothing against tattoos, I've even seen some which are beautiful artistic expressions, but I would never let my children get one before they turn 18 or leave school. What I ask my students though, is to cover them up while in classroom as the sign of respect for the institution of school.

Tattoos are just some kind of piece of art drawn or written on the body. I have nothing against it except for when it's done excessively.

Tattoo may have been a form of art to some people, but for me, personally I do not recommend doing it since permanent tattoo can cause skin infection, having a Tattoo can make people perceive that the other person is bully or egoistic, many of the workplaces do not allow employees if they have tattoos and further the person with the tattoo cannot donate blood.
