There is a story of a student coming to Siddhattha Gotama,
"are you a prophet or wise man?"
"No," said the Buddha.
"Are you a teacher?"
"No," replied Buddha
"What are you than?" the student exclaimed
The Buddha paused and responded, "I am awake"
- I think the story is an interesting existential piece. It illustrates Buddha's philosophy of detaching ourselves from the egoic concepts we shackle ourselves to. Another Buddhist, Ajahn Brahm, used this philosophy to illustrate that there is no such thing as a murderer, only one who has murdered.
