Ages 5-7 | KS1 Is it advisable for kids of this age range to have their own devices?

It's quite a surprise to see very young kids these days posses their own devices and PC. Though we cannot compare the time, I was into my teen years before I had access to any tech device.

The fact that they are exposed to these devices at such young age explains the rise of technology addiction. The earlier they are introduced to it the deeper they grow in it.

It is indeed a complex issue. While technology can offer numerous benefits to children in terms of learning and entertainment, it also comes with potential risks such as addiction and overexposure. It is crucial for parents to carefully monitor and regulate their children's device usage to ensure a healthy balance. Education on responsible technology use and setting limits can help mitigate the negative effects of early exposure to devices. Ultimately, each family must assess their own situation and make decisions that align with their values and goals for their children's development.

At atomic we're working on making learning a digital & immersive experience as our preference has migrated from libraries however with this power comes responsibility and unfortunately the dominant players in this space may not have our children's best interests at heart.

I think they should have their own devices. And you should trust them. Of course you should monitor what they're doing but not to a degree where it invades privacy. The earlier you introduce the technology the better in my view.
