Is humor important when teaching?

I have a teacher before that I don't listen to, she often discussed new topics everyday about home economics and at the end of it is a quiz, sometimes short and sometimes it's a long quiz. Then after a chapter there is a periodical test. It goes on like this for a year and what I really can remember is a topic about planting seeds. It's for a simple reason that me and my buddy during those elementary days was singing a paragraph or two about seeds. And we burst into laughter whenever we do.

Yes it does help. Listening to someone talk endlessly can be quite tedious and boring so a teacher with plenty of personality and the ability to introduce funny anecdotes related to the topic under discussion will make it more interesting. I did have a teacher that went above the call of being funny that it became too burdensome and annoying to watch and listen to, so I guess teachers should also gauge how to approach students. Above all else, teachers should be professional worthy of respect and authority.

A lot of people get their attention to someone who has a strong sense of humor when talking. It makes them interested or good to be with. Sense of humor is important in so many ways like teaching. Students will get their attention and makes them participate in discussions.

One characteristic that makes a great teacher is having a good sense of humor. humor in the classroom is so important because adding humor in the classroom, is a nice change and relieves any stress.

Yes it is. Humor makes discussion more lively and it can attract the attention of your listeners. But you also have to make sure that the humor you're giving is somewhat relevant to the topic. It can help speakers or teachers make their listeners respond or interact with the discussion.

The important thing is engagement.

All good teachers know how to engage the students in the journey of learning. Humour is one such way to really capture the attention of the audience and make sure the students enjoy the overall learning experience.

Some teachers have different styles. I had a teacher who would was quite strict but every time he entered the classroom every student would just be in anticipation of what he was going to say.

Not really, but I think it is a plus if have a good sense of humor. Students have a short attention span, probably around 10-15 minutes according to some studies and university classes can last 1-2 hours or more. In these sense, teachers must have their own technique or style to get the attention of their students every now and then so that they can focus in their lesson. Humor could be one of these.

Actually, the humor in class will make the students understand more and pay more attention to the lesson. When a teacher is teaching strictly to its lesson, the class hour will become boring and stressful.

Yes it is important , i don't believe that learning should be a boring proccess , i still remember that we hated classes with very strict boring teacher when i was young, our results were not that great on those classes as well, we didn't focus as we should and we hated the whole module .
Humor really helps sometimes and i believe that teachers must be able to creat a balanced Atmosphere inside the class in order to be able to deliver informations as they should !

Yes, it is. It may not be the most important, but I believe that it is one of the essential parts to get the students' attention. It is one of the important things that every teacher must at least have. There are students who struggle everyday and making them smile even for a while makes a difference.

I believe that humor is effective in teaching. It will put a smile on the faces of the students. There is a positive reaction of humor in the emotional and well being of the students.

For me, Yes. Because if u would get a humor in teaching your students wont get bored on listening to you. I based in from my experience as a former student. i really enjoyed or more focused when my teacher has a great sense of humor in teaching.

Humor is essential when teaching because it helps elevate the concentration of the students. However, the teacher has to find a balance between humor and the topic being taught.

Humor is very essential in teaching. It is an effective way to caught the attention and the interest of your students. The students learn more if their teacher can make every lesson an enjoyable journey.

I completely agree with you. Engagement is important. Humour is good, but it is just one of the ways to interest students. Every teacher has its own style, it doesn't have to be humour. So, engagement is the most important.

Teachers who have a good sense of humor are usually favorite teachers and their students easier accept their obligations and interact. Teachers who do not show sense of humor are perceived as strict. The use of humor in teaching process results in creation of favorable emotional atmosphere in class.

I believe including humor while teaching is important. There are two main reasons why it should be important. First, it breaks the ice. Humor catches people's attention and retains it. Communication is established, and the room becomes warmer due to the teacher's humor and students' few laughs. And secondly, it goes with the saying "Learning is fun". As the teacher may discuss complex topics or subjects, including humor helps the students' learning curve, making learning fun.

Learning is a process which can be very tedious indeed. If the teacher and the learner's can create humerous ways to remember information then it is not bad. Do you remember 'Richard Of York Gained Battle In Vain'? It made us remember the colours of the rainbow in their rightful order.

I think humor is super important when teaching. Like many others, all my favorite teachers have always been the ones who could make us all laugh and not take themselves too seriously. As much as I love learning, there are a lot of topics that are quite boring or just disinteresting, and to hear your professor drone on and on without spicing up the lesson any just doesn't encourage attention or retention at all.

I feel like, to be most effective, you have to have a unique angle you go at with your teaching, and adding humor is a great way to do that. Let's face it: school is stressful, some topics are boring, and we all like to laugh. I see no reason not to add humor to your teaching. :)

Funny humerous teachers have made it big with their learner's. They have also been favourites in learning institutions as they are great performers.
