Is Education In Need Of a Paradigm Shift?

If you look at a classroom in the 50s and a classrooom in the present day, not much as changed.

I doubt anyone thinks the current paradigm is flawless and unable to be improved. So why has education stayed mostly the same for the past century? Besides some minor changes like the adoption of certain technologies, the model of professor and students interacting inside the closed space of a classroom has been unchanged from the 1st grade all the way to university.

So, does education need a paradigm shift? How would it look like?
