Free Online Book Reviews, where can we find them?

I know that libraries and bookstores are very strict about the types of reviews their books receive. However, many book review companies like Kirkus charge and Indie Author 400.00 to get a review that is of course, not guaranteed to be good. Are there any free book review companies out there? Which ones have you preferred using? What do you tell some of your students who are wanting to go into writing as a career?

When it comes to looking for book reviews online, I just always go to Goodreads. It's a great source of book recommendations/suggestions. They also have got free ebooks, mostly classic ones.

I second that, Goodreads has all reviews from bookworms around the world. There you'll see the average opinion about a certain book. I like that they have categories for each type of book as well. They also have top ten lists, top ten dystopian books, top ten sci-fi books, etc. It certainly helps bookworms out there to know if a book is worth purchasing or not. Though in the end, it is still us who will determine if a book is good or not.

While goodreads can't be faulted in my opinion, like others have already said, I hope in the future it stays as being as reliable as it is now.

A lot of review sites have been ruined by the paid reviewers, and a lot of the time you don't know if your reading a genuine review, or something that's been paid for.

Yes, Goodreads.com is also a great place to find genuine and heartfelt reviews. Most of the people who offer reviews there are committed readers who've had an extensive experience reading books from different genres.

I agree with everyone - Goodreads is generally a good place to search for unbiased reviews. Of course, there will be paid reviewers, but Goodreads is a platform that allows readers to have varying views on a book. The reviews are easily accessible, so you can just scroll through them and read a few positive reviews, read a few negative or neutral reviews, and then make a decision based on those. :)
