Lost in Translation is art to me.

The movie is art in itself, giving us a very unique and wonderful story line. The videography is art because of the way it captures Sofia Coppola's (the director) perspective. The movie is beautifully written, expressing character emotions through a very simple script.

What movie do you guys consider as art?

I consider Ghost as art, the movie itself was filled with beautiful moments.
As when the beloved couple used clay for pottery. It was a big mess but a beautiful love story of a Ghost
trying to save his ex fiance from being scammed, by a thief it was also sad.

Do Japanese animated films count? Anything by Hayao Miyazaki holds a special place in my heart. The first film I watched made by Studio Ghibli was "My Neighbor Totoro". This film pretty much sums up my childhood. And how could I forget the Catbus? I remember waiting at the bus station with my mum secretly hoping the Catbus would drop by and take us home. Aside from Miyazaki's amazing direction, animation, and art, his stories stick with you throughout your life. Miyazaki knows how to remind you of your childhood and teach you that you need to grow up, but growing up doesn't mean losing your awe and sense of wonder.

Any movie can classify as art, I think, if that was what the creator intended. Categorically, film-making is recognised as an art. My favourite aesthetics from movies/directors are probably the Miyazaki films, as a few others here have mentioned. Directors can develop a particular style, and we might talk of them as if the sole author; the odd thing about most movies, however, is that really, there are multiple artists. Sometimes hundreds. This is very different to other conventional forms of art such as authors of books and painters.

I know I'm a nerd, but I think Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and the great movies of that era are magnificent. True art. Of course, they were a little corny, but they were so fun and theatrical.

What movie that I consider art? I don't know if I can narrow it down to just one movie because I happen to be a movie lover.

I think that the James Bond 007 movies are very artistic, I like a lot of older movies too, like the black and white ones that play on Turner's Classics. I'm a huge fan of old black and white movies, as well as romance movies.
I think "Planet of the Apes" was very artistic. I also watch certain Korean and Chinese movies that I think are beautifully made.

Space Odyssey!

I know that it is really long and slow, but I would frame every still from the movie and put on the walls of my apartment.

I consider every Tim Burton's movie as an art.

  • Corpse Bride
  • Dark Shadows
  • Beetlejuice
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

You stole my answer, haha. As soon as I saw this thread, Studio Ghibli popped into my mind. Instead of "Totoro," however, I was thinking of Howl's Moving Castle for the wondrously breathtaking nature scenes and of "Spirited Away" for the astoundingly detailed scenes.

Another movie I have always considered to be art is "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams.

Well I do agree with some of the users above who are pointing out Tim Burton films, as his really do incorporate a lot of the visual aspects that one would consider more artistic. In terms of a more mainstream movie, though, I would say that Donnie Darko is my example. It might just be that it is one of my favorites, but I think that the story is good enough to where it can be considered a work of art. I also thought of Waking Life...that is a pretty interesting movie about lucid dreams if you are interested.

I'm a movie lover myself so I cannot really pinpoint a single movie that I consider as my favorite. I do agree that every movie can be classified as art too. Each step in the creation of one movie are already forms of art and what's really great about it is the convergence of many brilliant and artistic minds all joined together in a single film. The world of movie and entertainment is a big art form that has unites artists of different forms and ancestry. :)

most interesting film franchise in my opinion is the Alien series. The production of every one of those films is absolute madness and a goldmine for wacky facts and cool trivia. I could talk about any one of or all of those movies for hours and hours and hours.

I'm not a movie junkie, so I'm not sure how valid my opinion would be, hehe, but some movies the movies I consider as art pieces are Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet and The End Of Evangelion.
Branagh's known as one of the most reputed Shakespeare's performers and the job he did recreating the play in his movie is just brilliant, the ambiance and the playout of the dialogues make this version delightful to watch.
As for The End of Evangelion, it's another example of an abstract expression that is very capable of affecting the viewer, and I'm a believer that when a form of art affects the consumer in some way, be it bad or good, it's a success on its own.

Shape of Water. Everything about it is absolutely perfect but what strikes me the most is the thing with green filter camera! It is so great! The picture is great, scenes are superb and the message of the movie is so strong. I consider this movie as a pure art and art at its best!

Neon Genesis Evangelion (not really a movie but more of a show, but it had a movie titled End of Evangelion). It's one of the most influential animes in history and it has probably one of the best animations that I know of. It's deep and full of meanings, gives thought-provoking questions about the human condition, and has one of the most accurate depiction of depression in any media ever (in my opinion, 13 Reasons Why depicts depression in a romanticizing way and does not show an accurate depiction of the condition) considering the creator (Hideaki Anno) had depression when he made the show. It's really not for kids (maybe perfect for teenagers as they can probably relate the most), and it's not something you want to show in a classroom, but its a show that everyone should watch (also the movie as it gives a satisfying conclusion to the story).

I'm not much if a movie person aficionado but Tim Burton movies popped into my mind as soon as I saw this thread. I really liked Beetle juice and I believe it can be classified as art. I'm not really into art so I don't know

I'm so happy to share with all of you guys that my favorite movie of all time and I consider it as an art, it is "passion of christ" directed by :Mel Gibson. He is my favorite artist and the best director of films that I have ever seen. This movie is more than an art , it reminds us that we have saved by the son of God and son of man. I suggest that this movie is so awesome and it will make you undertand more about why we all saved by grace of God.

One of my favorite movie which I really consider it as art is the movie Forrest Gump since I feel it as one of the finest films in the history of cinema. If we start seeing the life from Forrest Gump's point of view it would be so beautiful. He is so pure in every aspect. The best thing is he is not at all judgemental about anybody around him. He loves every body as they are. He always sees the positive side of the people. He may be a mentally challenged man , but he knows what love is. He loves Jenny with his whole heart.

Art is anything that expresses feelings or captures moments. You may be surprised, but even action and horror movies are art. They express adrenaline and fear. Romance expresses love, and comedy expresses joy and satire. And sometimes movies can look beautiful, too. Take, for instance, the recent action movie, Avatar. It shows an entire world of beauty and nature and has quite a deal of colors.

One of our field trips during childhood was going to Planetarium. Since then, I have developed a passion for arts and movies related to space. I'm a big fan of J. J. Abrams since the Armageddon movie. I consider science-fiction movies as work of art because of the visual effects and skillful implementation of ones imagination. The soundtrack of science-fiction movies are unique too and recognized for generations like the Star Wars movie.
