All Ages Do You Believe That PE Is Necessary For Schools?

Physical education is an important part of a student's curriculum. Students develope cooperative learning experience as well as problem solving skill. They learn to follow rule and work as a team , they work to developed the motor skills and learn propper body mechanic. They gain all these things though physical education, it is no question why it is an important part of school.

I do believe that Physical Education is an essential part of a student's course in school. Through this subject one can enhance and or develop his physical dexterity and alertness. PE also helps students practice the value of comradeship through the different activities and group games they engage in. They will learn also the importance of discipline and practice early on team work.

From an elementary perspective, it is absolutely essential! Not just for the obvious health benefits, but because of the motor development that comes with it. In Kindergarten, walking in a line is an actual skill that has to be taught and learned. Tossing and catching balls is also vital for the continued development of eye-hand coordination. Without PE, these skills are not taught.

I believe that every school should have PE as a compulsory subject because not only does it help you stay fit, it is fun, it teaches you about team work, co-operation, it helps you show discipline and improve your skills. PE is a great subject, but often people don't realise just how much it is actually helping us.

I remember when I was in middle school, Physical Education was an important curriculum. Students were required to complete a year of Physical Education in order to graduate from middle school. When I was in high school, Physical Education became an elective class that students have to complete at least 3 elective courses before graduation. I took 2 years of Physical Education when I was in high school. I do think that Physical Education is necessary for middle and high school because that's how students must take prior graduation. Physical Education helps students to get the exercise done and build a stronger health system.

I don't believe it is necessary. I think PE should be something that students can take out of discretion. I personally hated PE when I was a student. Why would a student have to be forced to learn gymnastics, for example, if he/she does not have any interest towards it? It becomes a burden, more than a learning opportunity. Parents should enroll their children to sports classes which they are genuinely interested in, otherwise, it's a waste of time and money.

We had it as a necessary class up until the end of high school...however the teacher was of the kind that let people just sit in the changing rooms if they please.
I do wish I had been more active then and that we were required to be. It was a useful thing to learn. I had to then in university figure out getting fit and finding time for fitness and dance on my own.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the general idea- there are things that aren't for me from general curriculum in PE, like playing volleyball. It's just not my thing. I heard there was a school where you can choose doing yoga instead of PE...I think that could be a good idea. I think it's important for teenagers to have something physical in their classes, but it would be nice if there is more than one class to choose from.

Aside from the axiomatic health benefits, PE promotes overall teamwork and trust. Furthermore physical activity leads to numerous positive effects on the brain and overall cognitive health; especially crucial for children and teenagers alike in this generation. So many great benefits of regular physical activity for the maturing body(both physically and mentally) :p

A side note though: There were always sports that I hated playing in PE classes and I found that really discouraging. There's room for some great improvement to the current PE curriculum's

I LOVED physical education. It's no surprise since I enjoy playing all sorts of sports. I took it from 6th grade till I graduated high school. Plus my school was all about eating healthy and being physically fit. Even now, I still enjoy kicking around a ball. I think PE is great to incorporate it in a curriculum. Kids, especially nowadays, would rather sit in front of computer playing games or watch television all day. It's a great way for people to them to get active and be healthy not only physically but on a mental note as well.

You do have a point there. If the child is not interested, it would be no point to having them engage in it as they would not give maximum effort towards the task.

Yes I think it's necessary. There's an old saying that goes,"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", and "All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy". I think it's important to find a middle ground and balance the time between academic education and physical education. Physical education is intended to make a child healthier and stronger physically so sometimes even though they don't seem to enjoy it, it's actually for their own good.

I think it is very important for schools to have a PE class. Exercise is essential in every human beings life in order for them to live a healthy lifestyle.

Without PE, people wouldn't be aware of the sports they're actually good at, if there are any. PE can also allow students to see their classmates in a setting outside of the classroom.

I found PE as my favorite class in middle school.

PE stands for physical education. It is important that students learn how to be active for a healthy life style. So many youngsters spend their time sitting in front of a computer or video game. Maybe a student is not interested in gymnastics , but there may still be a skill or a lesson they can use elsewhere in life. I was never in to sports , but in high school I had a great PE teacher. I was clumsy awkward and over weight , still she made me believe that I could be as active as anyone else in the room. I had never played soccer or Ultimate Frisbee before, and I had no idea what I was doing when I first took to the field to play. I learned to play and enjoy those sports. I went from being chose last in the group to being the one people wanted on their team. I learned to push my self and enjoy trying new things. If you only stick to what you are interested in , you will never know what else you can excel at.

Yes I think physical education is a necessary class. On the most basic level children today do not get enough exercise PE offers them at least one chance a week to get their heart rates up. Additionally, PE teaches teamwork and problem solving skills. When I had PE in addition to sports we also learned line dances, square dances and other more social forms of physical activity. I think PE helps flesh out an education by helping produce well rounded students.

I think PE is over rated. Maybe it's just because in my experiences PE teachers are way too tough and serious. I remember having to run laps in the cold with my ears freezing and hurting. My friend had to walk around in the heat while he had a flu because he forgot his PE clothes. There were over complicated rules and instructions for everything like the way you dress and recording times. Having PE is still important to me, but my classes were not about team work, problem solving or education like you guys described.

I can't agree on that mistymi, Possibly you had bad experience with PE teachers, but I think that PE is as important as learning the "regular" topics. More, most kids are more interested in PE, so having sports at school is really a great motivation for them to perform better in other classes, if they don't get good grades they just don't do sports.

I think it should definitely be required for elementary kids especially now with so much technology and it seems at home, many kids just don't get exercise. I even feel for middle school it should be required too and should have a health aspect to it as middle school is the time when many go through puberty. As for high school, I don't think it should be required all 4 years but students should at least have to take it once in high school and honestly I would probably suggest senior year because I think it could help encourage to continue to stay active if they plan on going to college since in college it's easy to not stay active and gain weight.

I believe that PE should be required for younger children in school as it is an important part of their development and optional for children in high school. I do believe that everyone should continually be taught health related subjects in school during their entire time as students. The thing to remember is that without PE classes or Health classes some of these students would never be exposed to the information that they are exposed to. So it's a good idea, in my opinion to work some of this into their curriculum. Plus, for some students it's the only time of the day where they are forced to move. I feel like in high school most students are generally more active on their own outside of school so the subject shouldn't be mandatory. If I student would prefer to take a free period or a study hall instead of gym there shouldn't be any problem with that.

The students need to move their bodies! Yes its important! They will better retain ALL of their lessons if they have good circulation. I believe all classes should have interactive moments that enable the student to get up and move. It has been proven that 20 minutes of study and 10 minutes of motor skills helps in memory retention. This may be difficult in a class filled with children, so it is for this reason that PE is absolutely essential in all grade levels. If the student doesn't like it, this won't be the area they will focus on and excel in, however, it will help them to excel in the area they want to focus on like language learning, mathematics, science, English and more. School that's want to cut PE classes are asking for trouble. In this ADD filled world, our kids need to get up and move or they will be bored to tears and not want to learn anything.
