A lonely bird?

Truly. My wife and a couple of my friends are photographers. Although I am not skilled in the art, I have a broad exposure to lots of professional work. Aside from the *feeling*, I also like:

1) The perspective. The focus is the subject (seagull) in the foreground, but the slightly unfocused ocean in the background further emphasizes the subject's sense of smallness or loneliness.

2) The angles. I love the angle where the water meets the shoreline. It adds interest.

It's a great shot!

I have to agree with Janus here i like the feel to it and the picture as well but the focus is what i like about this picture most.

I really like how you have the seagull stepping into the water. It's kind of cool seeing the water breaking against the seagull's legs. I'm not much of a photographer, so I can't really give professional advice, but overall I like the picture!

What perfect timing. Just enough froth and water, and natural light to compliment the moment.

Truly a wonderment of sea-side photography. It makes me long for the lazy days of summer where I used to vacation in Main when I visited family. Not too hot, just perfect for building sandcastles and enjoy the lovely gentle breezes to nap by.

Although I love photography and is something I do a lot myself, I know nothing about the technical side of it. But as in any other art, I know when a work makes me feel something, when it reaches me, and this one does! I love the angle from which the photograph is taken, combined with the expression in the seagull's eyes. Keep on showing us your work!

This is a nice photo. I think the angle that you have taken it gives a nice leading diagonal onto the bird ,Which is nice and sharp. I am a fan of black and White photography and this works well :>

It seems to me that the bird is daring a fish to come closer. It's a beautiful shot. I too have my own gallery on my hard drive. I love taking pictures of nature, my favorite thing to photograph is Mt Rainier, which is only about fifty miles away from my home. I have a great view, on a clear day, from my front porch. It would be better if I could move the power lines, but I still take plenty of pictures, I just zoom in on the mountain!

I can't offer up any kind of critique, as I'm not an expert on photography - but I really like this. I never seem to be able to capture the 'essence' of a scene when I take photos, but you've done a great job here. I like the fact that the seagull is off-centre, that just seems to make the photo 'work'.

It would look great in a beach house, blown up and framed!

I like it. There is a lot to it. There is motion and there is stillness. There is the beauty of the bird itself. There is the presence of the bird in the vastness of the water. Even the coloring of it creates an impact. It is good you captured this moment. Pictures have a way of taking on their own life.

I know nothing about the technical stuff in art but you either like something or you don't. I like this. It is kind of peaceful looking at it actually. The lone bird, the waves breaking softly on the beach. And I like black and white photos too.

I am not a professional photographer or image critic, but I feel the sentiment of the small, lonely bird against the vastness of the ocean...but I also see the strength of this little bird's character. He knows he is small and insignificant in his world, but he also seems to know that he has a purpose. While his existence may not have a huge impact, it does have an impact on someone somewhere...

I am not sure if it's a lonely bird, I would say it's a carefree bird. :) Anyway, I don't think it's just an average photography. I also like the vibe of it. :)

I love the photograph. I'm not sure if the bird is truly lonely, but I feel like it's thinking about something. There's that far away look on its eyes. Or maybe it's just thinking about it's next meal? Lol. What truly stands out for me in this picture is the:

1. Black and White setting. It truly captivated the emotions of the bird and made the picture more intense.

2. The scenery. I think the water is the perfect scenery and it enhances the motif of the picture.

Good luck and I hope to see more photographs like this one!
