Using lego in the early years?

Has anybody had any success in introducing lego into the classroom for maths-related tasks (ages 5 - 10)?

For example, using lego blocks for
  • Basic counting skills
  • Basic multiplication (ie. 3 rows of 5 lego blocks - what does this equal?)
  • Basic fractions
I'd love to know how other teachers fared with using lego as a teaching medium? It's something I've been thinking about for a while.

My niece is using Lego and she's enjoying playing it. She learned to count and to identify colors because of it. She loves building random shapes. It is very helpful to build her learning capability. It also exercises her brain and it is good for her.

Using lego in your teaching is a good idea. Since the children know that lego blocks are toys, it brings interest and excitement for the students to learn their lessons.
