Thought of the Day: Entitlement

A sense of entitlement is not a reflection of one's importance. Rather, entitlement demonstrates that a person is not important enough to be secure in his or her office. A person secure in his or her prominence will have the confidence to show humility and kindness.

Entitlement seems to be the prevailing attitude of so many people today, at least in the US. Oddly enough, it's not just within the younger generations but spread throughout society so we can't blame it on the way our youth are being raised. I think it's at least partly because the government is trying to turn us into a nanny state. There are so many programs that just hand things to people and it seems we don't have to think for ourselves anymore. Instead of fighting this, many are giving in and allowing others to make all their decisions for them.

I cannot agree more with this statement. These days we're just being handed all these new programs, and people are slowly becoming more and more expectant I suppose you could say. On the path our country is heading down right now (socialism), people are going to just stop bothering to care for themselves because they know big brother is just going to give them another free handout. If we don't stop this soon, we are going to stop progressing. Hard work and determination is what brought us to the moon; not the gift of someone else's paycheck. It's hard to turn back from socialism, but it is possible, and we need to do it fast.

Yes, if we really believe we are entitled to something, we are insecure. It's saying "oh I deserve this hot fudge sundae after a hard long day of work". If you are at peace with yourself, you will not need those hot fudge sundaes to validate you. You will know that after a long hard day you will be getting your rest and sleep, and you won't even think twice whether you deserve it or not. You will just automatically know you need to it be productive for another long hard day.
