More and more schools around the globe are adopting the Singapore Math Method of Teaching. This method entails students to understand the "why's" rather than the "how's" in solving number problems. Rather than letting students memorize formulas or operations, this approach make the students conceptualize the problem using visual representations and models in the hope that they would come upon formulas on their own. This process can be tedious and not as straight forward as the traditional way, but the aim is to have students a firmer grasp of mathematical concepts using a more analytical approach.

The Singapore Math Method is based on textbooks from the national curriculum of Singapore. Although sometimes presented as an innovative new method, they are based primarily on time-tested traditional mathematics instruction methods, and are written in English. They are frequently cited, in addition to Saxon math, as a good alternative to reform mathematics texts. to answer your question, maybe.

Probably. When I used to be a representative of my school for a math competition, our trainor always swore by the Singaporean method of teaching mathematics. It certainly worked, I managed to get to the Regional Finals of the competition.
