I find kids wasting too much time trying to grasp the subject on their own, especially in maths. If you can't understand it on your own, you shouldn't be ashamed of it. Go ask your teacher for help.

If you're not sure whether you actually understand the subject or not and take the test anyways, you're bound to make mistakes. I found that you can easily get an F by repeating the same mistake on every question, which is very common.

Although this might not sound as if it will be of too much help, it is the most important thing when it comes to studying maths. there really isn't a trick for most stuff. The best way to understand maths is to have it explained to you properly, by someone who understands the subject.
