Agree. The moment you put art in a single category, then you are in direct contradiction to the principles art. More than "puritanism," art is freedom and self-expression.
It does not mean that when a school activity doesn't include analyzing or memorizing, it's not at all important. For children, PE supports the development of their motor skills. It can also serve as a catharsis especially when the other subjects are becoming stressful.
I was surprised with my nephew when he was talking about historical figures I didn't learn when I was his age. I wondered if he read it over the internet but he said, he knew about them through a video game he's currently playing. If only the academe can look into this medium when teaching...
